Many of our metaphors come from comparisons to the natural world, and, it seems, as we become more disconnected with that world, then our language loses much of its flavor. This may be partially the result of new media and the popular mass society as well. At least, this is the conclusion of a new book called Slam Dunks and No Brainers by Leslie Savan.
